Recently, national news headlines have brought to light an alarming accusation of race-based real estate value inequity in the appraisal industry: A black family's home value increased by a whopping $300,000, after their first appraisal, by "white-washing" their home and having a white friend answer the door on the day of the appraisal. Unfortunately, this is not the only recent case of real estate value inequity.
